It was exactly midnight when my cell phone rang. Percy and I were up late, catching up on the news. On the other end of the line, the constable’s voice sounded frantic. “I’m here in the Maritime Museum, there was a robbery no less than one, no, two minutes ago! There aint no back or side doors in this place so you’ll have to push through my men at the entrance. Grab your husband and get over here NOW. That’s an order, Frommer.” I turned the T.V. off and grabbed my coat and my husband then jumped into the car.
“The Maritime Museum is the most heavily guarded (as well as the ONLY) museum in town. There are security cameras and heat sensors in the air ducts and sewer systems.My men surrounded the building as soon as Jimmy called us in. There’s no way he could’ve gotten out undetected. I have my suspicions that one of the night guards did it.”
This was quite a speech for the constable and I was surprised at his thoroughness. My thought process was interrupted by the flowery smell of cologne and the click of stilettos on marble. A shadow crossed the room and Percy stopped mid-yawn. A tall blonde made an entrance. She wore a long, thick overcoat.“Miss Evania Saint at your service.” She tossed me a smile. “Special Detectives Unit, sweetie.” The constable fumbled over to her and tilted his hat. “Thank you kindly Mrs. Saint.”
